How to Create Wavy Hair?
Hello everyone and welcome back to my channel! Today, we're diving into another hair video. It’s been a while, and I’m excited to be back in the bathroom with you all, just like in my early videos where we chatted about skincare and beauty. This setting feels like home to me. Today, I’ll take you through the steps to achieve the undone, beachy waves that I’m sporting right now—all created using a flat iron. Let’s get started!
Discovering the Technique
I recently stumbled upon a new technique that I couldn’t wait to share. If you already know this method, great! If not, you’re in for a treat. My natural hair texture is thick and wavy, which can get a bit wild. To start, I straighten all my hair to make it more manageable.
Tools You’ll Need
Straightener: This is my go-to tool for straightening.
Scrunchie or Hair Clips: These help section your hair without creating kinks.
Step-by-Step Guide
Straighten Your Hair: Begin by roughly straightening your hair. This doesn’t have to be perfect; the goal is to reduce the volume and make it easier to work with straight hair.
Section Your Hair: Use a scrunchie or clips to section your hair. Start with the front pieces and work your way back.
Create Waves: Take a section of hair, clamp the straightener, flip it, and pull away from your face. This creates a beautiful, beachy wave. Alternate between bigger and smaller sections for a more natural look.
Consistency is Key: Maintain a decent amount of tension and move slowly. Avoid lingering too long in one spot to prevent heat damage.
Finishing Touches
After you’ve waved your entire head, you might notice the curls look very defined. To achieve a more relaxed, undone look, run your fingers through the curls wigs. For a slightly messier appearance, lightly clamp the straightener over large sections of hair and tug at the ends.
Preserve the Style
I aim to keep this style for several days, using dry shampoo to extend the look without washing my hair. I avoid heavy products as they can weigh down the waves. A light shine mist, like Drybar’s Sparkling Soda, helps break up the pieces and adds a subtle sheen.
Why Style for Travel?
I style my hair even for flights. In my early travel days, I’d board a plane in sweatpants and a sweatshirt, only to regret it when I’d bump into someone I knew or worked with. Now, I make an effort to look more put together, especially on flights between major cities like New York and LA, where you never know who you might meet.
Final Look
Here’s the finished look—effortlessly wavy and perfectly undone. It’s a style that lasts and looks great for days. Whether you’re prepping for a casual day out or a flight to somewhere exciting, these waves will keep you looking chic and stylish.
